Ok, so I get ISO sizes, what about yours?

March 31, 2009 – 1:47 pm

We wondered when you were going to ask that. Well it’s not an industry standard process that’s for certain, but it is done with the customer in mind. To enable us to offer excellent prices and service we need to waste as little paper as possible. With this in mind we have to physically divide a blank sheet up and see how many flyers of different sizes we can get “up” on a sheet. Imagine cutting out some A6, A5, DL shapes and trying to fit them all on 1 sheet of paper, it’s not really that easy.

This is why we use slightly different sizes. Visually you will notice little difference to ISO sizes as they are very minute tweaks, losing and gaining 1-2mm in most circumstances. This allows up to 16 A6 flyers, or 8 A5 flyers but most importantly a mix of A5, A6, A4, DL, SlimJim, Wideboy and Credit Card flyers without comprimising the overall size of the sheet.

Below is a picture of a blank flyer sheet looks like before we add your flyers to it. They are printed along with other customers flyers and as such some versatility on our part is required to get you all printed together nicely and despatched the Same Day!

Flyer Sheet Blank

See all those nice blue guides? Looks a right mess doesn’t it! Well don’t worry it makes sense to us! Anyway, once we’ve placed all the flyers in there it’s ready to be printed! We have to make sure all the flyers are central and nothing important is to be trimmed off later in the process. We still manage to keep in line with ISO sizes except for the odd millimeter here and there, so for instance an ISO A6 flyer is 148×105mm, our size is 144×104mm. That makes it a tiny bit thinner and a bit shorter, but still the same shape and proportion, and unless you get a ruler visually the same aswell! Below is an image of what a full flyer sheet ready to go might look like!

You can see a couple of different shapes and sizes here like A5 (The upside down flying saucer one!), DL (black, top left) Credit Card (pinky purple, top right) and finally the most common A6 pictured everywhere else. This is then printed and trimmed and packed neatly into boxes ready for despatch the same evening, phew!
